Third  Grade Math focuses on students understanding of place value, operations, measurement and geometry. Students learn to add or subtract numbers within 1,000. Students learn to multiply factors 0-10. Students learn to find the area and perimeter of spaces and they also learn to categorize various shapes and quadrilaterals. During the year students learn these concepts with word problems that require one or two steps. It is imperative for students to fluently learn to multiply and divide numbers, but also to read word problems to understand the problems. Students will learn a variety of strategies and skills to help them be successful on each topic that build from previous years.

In Third Grade E.L.A., we are using the Wit & Wisdom Curriculum to teach students how to deepen their thinking when it comes to reading. Our focus shifts from basic comprehension to finding things within the text such as main idea, key details, central message, and how stories or paragraphs connect.

Third Grade Science uses Discovery Education to focus on force and motion landforms the solar system, the human body and the lifecycle of plants. 

North Carolina Third Grade Social Studies focuses on the study of the three regions, historical events and historical people in each region. Students are expected to read and answer questions on weekly articles. Students are able to access their articles through Social Studies Weekly on Clever or Google Classroom.

Conversation: Your conversation level is a 0 unless I have called on you to share. Your microphone should be muted until you have been called on.

Help: If you need help, either raise your hand or type your question in the chat box.

Activity: I will explain to you what the lesson activities are. I will let you know when you complete assignments and what I expect from you.

Movement: You should have your computer set up in a spot in your home where you can be seen. You should not leave your computer during the class session unless there is an emergency.

Participation:   We expect that you will participate actively, just as if we were in the classroom. Your camera should be on during class time and test. You should not be up moving around, starting side conversations, or making other noises that will distract your classmates.

Success: If we follow all of these expectations daily during our live sessions, we will have success with virtual learning.
